These endcaps are used with Aluminum gunwhales and are made of durable ABS. They are formed to the shape of the nose of the canoe and blend well into the Aluminum gunwales. They are fastened with Aluminum rivets to the hull and gunwhales.

Aluminum

The standard outfitting of the 16 foot Prospector is Aluminum. The gunwhales are constructed of extruded Aluminum. These are made in Quebec by Indalex according to the specifications supplied by Red Lake. Aluminum is extremely durable, does not corrode, is lightweight and is very attractive. The gunwhales are bonded and riveted to the hull at strategic wood inserts.

Ash

Ash gunwhales are also available as an option. They are handcrafted by a Master Carpenter here in Nova Scotia and add a distinct look of class to the finished product.

The canoe seats, thwarts and carrying yoke are made of white ash. Ash is a very strong and durable wood. It is the choice of canoe manufacturers for parts requiring both strength and beauty. These are imported from New Hampshire.
